Helping victims of child abuse is critical and purposeful work - it changes lives.
About me
Kathleen has worked for many years in both the nonprofit and higher education worlds with a focus on strategic communications and organizational leadership. While working at Colorado State University, she and her husband began to pursue the idea of opening a nonprofit cafe. This concept allows ALL people to access healthy meals with dignity and it brings people together to participate in community, filling a need as basic as that of food. Together, they moved their idea from concept to reality, co-founding and operating the FoCo Cafe in Fort Collins.
Once the Cafe reached sustainability, they stepped away and found new purpose in Hawai'i. It was there that Kathleen led a strategic planning effort at a critical point in the University of Hawaii's history. Using the Appreciative Inquiry and Strategic Doing frameworks in a very diverse ecosystem, the effort brought together students, faculty, staff, alumni, business and research partners, and community members to create an action plan for the future. When the planning phase was complete and action plans were being funded, another opportunity arose - back in Fort Collins.
Kathleen now leads the team at ChildSafe Colorado, a nonprofit that provides outpatient therapy and support for survivors of child abuse and child sexual abuse. This 39-year-old organization serves children, families, and adult survivors from 52 zip codes and served over 700 individuals last year, not counting their waitlist. ChildSafe will open a second facility in Loveland April 2025. Cost and distance are common barriers to treatment, and the Loveland office will allow ChildSafe to serve more survivors, regardless of ability to pay.
Members are welcome to join me for a tour of our new facility in Loveland, feel free to reach out or book a Friday tour for Loveland at https://www.childsafecolorado.org/visit-us/.
