What is your "why"? Why do you do what you do?
Caring for others has always been who I am, and in bookkeeping I found a way to keep doing that while building something of my own. It challenges me, teaches me something new, and lets me meet people I'd never otherwise cross paths with. I get to use a skill I genuinely love to ease a real burden for business owners — the stress and overwhelm of the financial side — while providing for my own family. Helping someone go from dreading their books to feeling in control never gets old. -

About me
I'm Heather Colon, owner of Busy Balanced Books. I've been the type to track every dollar in a spreadsheet since I was a young adult — long before I knew it had a name. I studied early childhood education and spent years as a preschool teacher, then became a stay-at-home parent, managing our family's home and finances while raising three children alongside my husband, who serves in law enforcement. When I was ready to build something of my own, bookkeeping was the natural fit — it's what I'd been doing informally for as long as I can remember. Today I'm a certified QuickBooks Online ProAdvisor specializing in cleanups and monthly bookkeeping for small, service-based businesses, and I bring that same organized, detail-first, caring approach to every client's books. When I'm not reconciling accounts, I'm usually with my family or focused on health and wellness — the same balance I try to bring to my clients' businesses. -

Outside of work, you'll usually find me with a good book, on a walk, or at the beach whenever I can get there. I love a cozy movie night and any excuse to spend time with friends and family — I'm the one who loves making holidays and celebrations feel special. I'm also a lifelong puzzle-solver and always up for learning something new, which might explain why I enjoy the "puzzle" side of bookkeeping so much.
