Meet Kriti Trivedi, Director of Research and Business Development at the Indian Institute of Development Management (IIDM). IIDM measures whether social spending actually works — CSR impact assessments, third-party verification, and field surveys for companies, foundations, and government departments. In sectors such as Renewable Energy, Climate, Public Health, Education, Agriculture, and One Health, Kriti has done this work with the UN-WFP, UNICEF, and US federal programs, and completed her education at XLRI (MBA) and Columbia University, NYC (MPA). I thought the two of you should be talking.Worth a conversation.
What is your "why"? Why do you do what you do?
I've spent my career watching money get spent on people's lives — at the UN (UNICEF, UN WFP), in New York, Myanmar and in Delhi. Reports always say what was spent. They almost never say what changed. I came back to India to do the checking. If a company or a government puts money into a community, someone should be able to tell them honestly whether it worked
Qualifying Questions: What are three questions we can ask clients to help pave the way for a referral? List them here.
Does your company or client have a CSR budget? Who tells them whether that money actually made a difference on the ground?
Has a board, funder, auditor or government department ever asked you to prove your impact with data — and it was a scramble to produce it?
Do you ever need real information from the ground — customers, employees, villages, markets — that you can't get sitting at a desk?
Unique Selling Proposition
Most firms tell you what you spent. We tell you what changed. IIDM is an independent research institute in Bhopal, led by people trained at the UN and Columbia, with field teams that reach villages across central India in local languages. We measure and verify the impact of CSR, government and philanthropic spending — and because we don't run programs ourselves, our findings are believable precisely because we have nothing to defend.
About me
Here is Brief Introduction : Meet Kriti Trivedi, Director of Research and Business Development at the Indian Institute of Development Management — IIDM — right here in Bhopal. Kriti has worked on four continents.
She spent five years in New York. At the United Nations, with UNICEF, she was a keynote speaker at a conference inside UN Headquarters, and her research analysis was broadcast to audiences across thirty-seven countries. She managed a seven-million-dollar US federally-funded health portfolio. She was on Columbia University's research team running a major study across ten African nations — Kenya, Ghana, Ethiopia, Rwanda, and more. Before that, she was in Myanmar advising a national government on its food and nutrition plan, work she presented at a United Nations summit. And all of this on top of a Master's from Columbia, an MBA from XLRI, and an engineering degree.
Now, here's what makes her rare: she has worked across almost every kind of organization there is. The United Nations. US federal health agencies. An Ivy League university. The Government of India and our state governments. Global foundations and INGOs like Oxfam, Save the Children, the Aga Khan Foundation, and Heifer International. And corporate CSR programs — HCL Foundation, NHDC, and others.
Whether it's a national education evaluation reaching sixty-five thousand people, a government health survey, or a company's CSR impact assessment, Kriti is the expert organizations bring in to find out one thing: did it actually work? She holds our Consulting zone. So if you ever know a business, a foundation, or an NGO that needs world-class research, evaluation, or CSR impact work — you now know exactly who to send them to.
