Christina Hurley, a Physician Associate and founder of Less Leg More Heart, personally navigated limb loss in 2016 and she realized the healthcare system often stops at the surgery door. She launched this nonprofit in 2018 to provide the 'missing pieces' in the amputation process- from peer support and holistic care to vital home modifications. In providing amputees targeted support, supplies, and services over a longitudinal service model this organization ensures amputees have what they need to transition from surviving to thriving. -
What is your "why"? Why do you do what you do?
Less Leg More Heart was born from a gap between clinical medicine and lived experience. Having survived a rare vascular condition and amputation, the founder saw firsthand that while hospitals save lives, they don't always teach you how to live them again. Our nonprofit exists to provide the physical, emotional, and financial resources that insurance ignores, proving that losing a limb doesn't mean losing your quality of life. -

Unique Selling Proposition
While most nonprofits provide one-time assistance, Less Leg More Heart acts as the specialized project manager for life-changing transitions. We are the only organization that combines clinical expertise with a dedicated H.O.M.E. Program, connecting the trades directly to the disability community to provide expert-led, safety-first home modifications. We don’t just fund ramps; we provide the medical advocacy and technical oversight to ensure every modification creates a safe, permanent foundation for independence alongside our other programs of assistance to ensure amputees are holistically optimized. -
About me
I am a Physician Assistant and the Founder/CEO of Less Leg More Heart. My career in medicine took a personal turn when I became a below-knee amputee, shifting my focus from clinical practice to patient advocacy and nonprofit leadership. I now use my medical expertise and personal resilience to lead an organization dedicated to empowering the limb loss community through education, advocacy, speaking, mentorship, and holistic support. -
