What is your "why"? Why do you do what you do?
I discovered my "why" or purpose back in 2009 while in training to become a thought leader, mentor, and advisor. I realized I got my entrepreneur spirit from my parents who said to never ever, don't you ever, never never consider owning a business. That didn't work out, as I've built over a dozen businesses. What I realized was they didn't want me to experience the pain and suffering they experienced as business owners. They were poor and struggling and trying to feed their four boys. I didn't know then what I learned now, and that is they didn't learn how to grow a business, instead they only learned how to do their business. I realized my success is because I learned how to grow a business and to forever be learning. My "why" has become to not let anyone struggle in their business because they didn't learn the how to, how to grow a business, not just the in-the-business things, but also the marketing strategies, the sales methods, the financial pieces, the team growth and motivation, and to have goals including the end goal. Growing a business is challenging, and lots less challenging when you are learning what you don't yet know. -

About me
Raised by entrepreneurs in a western suburb of Detroit, Doug learned about the fun and frequent challenges of owning a business at an early age. Doug’s Dad had a painting business, and his Mom had a maid-service business. Both parents had been very dedicated to build their businesses, however, the challenges for them were overwhelming. This created a “don’t own a business” belief system which Doug overcame at an early age.
Due to the family not having much money, Doug at 14, embarked on his first business experience by selling holiday greeting cards door-to-door. Now, and over the last 30 years the early drive for success led him to become an owner of 9 businesses, an avid instrument-rated private pilot, and an accomplished world traveler, exploring over 35 countries.
After selling two of his self-built, multi-million dollar businesses Doug began to work as an ActionCOACH Business Coach in 2009. While teaching from his experience has great value, the greatest value he has provided is the use of the ActionCOACH systems to cause his clients to have massive success. Doug has received over 40 awards for himself and for his clients all based on the results he has obtained.
Earning the designation PMP (Project Manager Principal) per the requirements of the Project Management Institute has been beneficial in following processes and procedures and all the systems which franchises create. The ability to “copy-paste”, as Doug likes to refer, is a skill which has helped benefit Doug as a franchisee.
The designation MG100 is a special recognition of being awarded membership in a very elite, 100-person organization, called the Marshall Goldsmith 100 Coaches. Each member of the organization has been handpicked by Marshall Goldsmith (#1 Thinkers 50, NY Times Best Selling Author, Internationally known speaker, and professional known as the #1 Executive Coach, with clients including the CEO of Ford, CEO of Boeing, President of Google Americas, CEO of Hershey, President & CEO of The World Bank, etc.) Each member of the MG100 has committed to providing free education and mentorship upon reaching retirement, just as Marshall is providing for the MG100.
Doug is very passionate about helping the family business owner become more successful. Doug’s #1 business belief is that “no one should have to live a life of struggle like my parents did. If they own a business where the market exists, they only need to learn how to work on their business instead of in their business. The limitations of youth, including poverty, are no match to the education available and opportunity to be successful in a world economy.” Family businesses are the core foundation of every country in the world – families should have happier lives because of the lifestyle a successful business brings and Doug achieves this through his coaching programs.
Doug has reached the Million Dollar Coach Level, inducted in to the ActionCOACH Hall of Fame, and has been selected to be the Chairman of the ActionCOACH Foundation. -

Hobbies and interest
Helping people have a happier life because they have a better business is my hobby. I enjoy helping others have great occupations and stretch themselves to achieve things they didn't think possible. I've enjoyed over 50 cruises all over the world and plan to do another 50 in the coming few years. -
