If you suspect that your account has been hacked, take immediate action to secure it. Here are four essential steps you should follow:
Change Your Password: Changing your account password is crucial. By doing so, you’ll likely lock out the hacker. Make sure to create a strong and unique password that includes a mix of upper and lower case letters, numbers, and special characters. Don’t reuse any old passwords.
Notify Your Contacts: Inform your contacts that your account was compromised. Let them know that they may receive spam messages that appear to come from you. This way, they can be cautious and avoid falling victim to any fraudulent activity.
Update Security Software: Ensure that your security software is up to date. Run a scan on your system for malware, especially if you suspect your computer might be infected with a virus. Keeping your security tools current helps protect your account.
Contact Relevant Parties: Reach out to people who can assist you. For example:
If your bank or government information is saved in your account, verify that no unauthorized instructions were given.
If you suspect identity theft or impersonation, take appropriate action.
Consider installing trusted anti-virus software to remove harmful software from your system.
Remember, you have the power to take control and protect your account. Stay safe out there!
