The journey into the world of Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) for me was not accidental. About me
Hello, My name is Dustin Potter and I'd like to believe that I am the heart and soul behind Cool-Leo AC & Heat, a company that has been dedicated to ensuring the comfort of our community since its inception in 2001. With almost two decades threading through the fabric of the HVAC industry—a journey that began back in the springs of my career—I've weathered the storms and basked in the heights of this ever-evolving field. The middle of 2024 will mark my 17th year of dedication, not just to the craft, but more importantly, to the people whose lives we touch daily.
My foray into the HVAC world initiated as an installer, a position that, in retrospect, was among the most challenging yet profoundly formative periods of my life. Those long, grueling days laid the foundation for a deep-seated respect for each individual who plays a role in this industry. It's a respect born of shared experiences and the collective understanding of the weight we carry. This same respect extends to our technicians, hardworking professionals with whom I share years of firsthand experience. I know the sacrifices they make, especially during the summer months when daylight becomes a treasured currency, and home feels like a fleeting memory.
Transitioning from boots-on-the-ground roles to where I stand today—as the founder and president of Cool-Leo AC & Heat—has opened my eyes in ways I never anticipated. Owning and operating a business is a monumental undertaking, filled with unseen challenges and responsibilities that I, as an employee, could never have fully grasped. It’s a journey that has taught me to hold a different kind of respect for myself and every entrepreneur who dares to turn a dream into reality. In fact, this path led me to a moment of profound humility where I reached out to my last boss, thanking him for the lessons learned under his guidance and apologizing for any moment I faltered. His response was both heartwarming and enlightening, reinforcing the value of mentorship and community in our industry.
At the heart of my world lies my family—my incredible wife Jenna, who stands with me as a co-owner, and our three amazing children: Tanner, Drayke, and Stori. Their love, laughter, and unwavering support illuminate the path we walk together. They remind me daily of our blessings and the genuine connections that make this journey worthwhile.
Through the years, my experiences as a father, husband, installer, technician, and now leader have intertwined to shape the philosophy behind Cool-Leo AC & Heat. Outside the demanding world of HVAC, my life revolves around a different kind of energy - one fueled by passion, laughter, and the joy of simple pleasures. Each moment spent away from the compressors and thermostats is dedicated to the people who make every challenge worth overcoming: my family.
Watching my son, Drayke, out on the basketball court is a source of immense pride. His dedication and passion for the game are nothing short of inspirational. It's hard to say if it's the Potter blood that gives him such an edge, but there's no denying his talents are all his own. While work initially meant I missed more driveway practice sessions than I cared to, seeing him now - being scouted by teams and coaches - reassures me that his hard work is paying off, and I couldn't be prouder.
Then there's Tanner, my eldest, who has a knack for baseball that has to be seen to be believed. As a pitcher, he's left many batters bewildered with his curveball. His routine of eat, sleep, and repeat baseball has not only honed his skills but has been a constant reminder of the dedication required to excel.
Stori, my daughter, brings a different kind of music into our lives. Whether it’s spinning tales that capture the imagination or filling the air with her beautiful singing voice, moments with her are a treasure. Her talent and creativity are a constant source of delight and amazement.
My life partner, Jenna, not only shares the journey of entrepreneurship with me but also a love for culinary adventures. Together, we explore the flavors our local restaurants have to offer, always in search of a dish that might rival her unbeatable culinary skills. Our shared meals are a testament to the joy found in good food and great company, a reminder of life’s simple and yet profound pleasures.
As for my personal retreat, you'll find me on the golf course, chasing the elusive goal of besting my dad. Though victory remains a dream for now, those greens are where I find peace, challenge, and a healthy dose of humility.
And, of course, there are the moments spent with my mom. Whether it's just my brother and I keeping her company or embarking on a family adventure, her happiness is contagious and a reminder of the blessings I have in my life.
In a life filled with responsibilities, both personal and professional, these are the moments that recharge and inspire me. From the basketball courts to baseball fields, the storytelling sessions at home, to the culinary quests with my wife, and the peaceful challenges of golf - each hobby and interaction is a cherished part of who I am and a reflection of the importance of balance, passion, and family.
