About me
When I was 12 years old, I went bankrupt.
The local carnival was in town and had a bank roll from chores, yard work and flipping baseball cards. Life was good. As most kids do at fairs, I spent money on food, rides and games. Towards the end of the week I had no more money. I begged my parents for more money but they asked where my earnings went from all of my Summer work. I was denied a "loan" and learned a painful lesson.
Later that Summer, my mother being the school teacher that she was bought me an accounting ledger for my birthday. She taught me debit/credit, P&L structure and how to manage my very, very limited "cash flow". While I never pursued a career in accounting I always enjoyed understanding the details of how businesses run and different profitable models.
As a plot twist, I ended up making a complete "180" and pursued a doctorate level degree in healthcare and spent many years helping people in my community. Clinical care was great but my curious behavior always lead me to learn more. I transitioned into the business side of healthcare and worked in many roles, mainly marketing & sales. While working in this field, like many millennials paying off student debt I began a side hustle. My best friend from college had started a real estate portfolio and wanted to branch out of his geographic area. We started Wheaten Investments LLC in 2019 and still have a growing commercial portfolio today. This venture brought me full circle from the Summer I went bankrupt. I learned how to be a skilled operator, managing employees as well as subcontractors all while maintaining the books.
During this time, I had the opportunity to help others with their business and give advice and consultation on ways to grow and improve revenue. This was a perfect way to blend my empathic behavior of helping others (healthcare) and work primarily on businesses. This combination spawned my transition to work at Transworld Business Advisors.
After a very unique journey with many different experiences, I have come to find my true passion which is helping owners and operators value, exit plan and sell their business. -
